I just rebarreled a blr 81 with a shilen cm barrel into a 338 federal, I have 3 thou head space on the go gauge and I am getting sticky extraction with factory loads and have to keep handloads down near the starting loads to keep pressure down and the cases are streaching quit a bit as well and the barrel fouls bad as well, I do not know what is going on, would appreciate some input. Thanks Steve!!

I would chuck it back up and get rid of about half of that headspace and hope it helps....... BUT, you've got a hotrod chambering, a lever action with a rotary bolt and cases "stretching"...... IMO the rotary bolt will always be a problem. Keeping the mechanism lubed and the chamber DRY will be SOP.

Exactly how do they stretch? Do they come out long? Or are they stretching when you resize?

Have you verified clearances on the reamer/chamber?

As Al asked how are the cases stretching, are they getting longer from head to shoulder or is the case web, shoulder, and body expanding excessively. If there's ANY lube on the cases or in the chamber, even a bit of leftover bore solvent it could contribute to the problem. A case gauge for a .358 might be handy to see if the fired cases will readily fit since the only differences between the .358 and .338 Fed that I know of are the neck diameters.

Did the rifle give sticky extraction with the factory barrel, and what caliber was the factory barrel as well.?If it was a .308 and accepted factory loads without problems, it's likely a problem with the chamber on the new barrel.

Thankyou for your replys gentlemen, From unfired 308 brass they are stretching 2 thou measured before resizing after resizing then I trim. The unfired 308 brass measured .464.5 " across the case head and after firering .468.5 thou expansion and the extraction is not sticky at all. The win 308 brass necked up seem to work better than the factory 338 fed brass, could I have a brass problem or am I still missing somthing.
I am not sure how to check the specs on the reamer, it is a brand new manson reamer and a new 308 go gauge, Factory ammo is still high preasure and sticky extraction. Steve!!
