I wasn't able to make the kettlefoot match but heard my sporter was protested, whats up with this?

Gary

I heard there was a question about my stock. Next time we shoot together I would like for you to check it out.
See ya soon, Gary

sporter stock

Wilbur,

What constitutes a protest? You checked my gun with a penny test at the request of Gary Lemons upon my second place win at Kettlefoot yesterday. If it had failed, would this have been a protest? When these things happen, it is possible that a competitor's accuracy can be thrown off because they get upset. Perhaps we should not get so picky. I understand rules are rules but picking out individuals and not checking everyone is what I don't understand.

Bill...

it is like any other sport, there are people who think they can throw you off your game by "rattling" you, and yes it sometimes works. Understand though I am in no way saying this is what happened, because I was not there and have no idea of the circumstances. Maybe we should adopt a policy where a protest is filed with the match director, but is not anounced, or acted upon until the end of the days event?

Clearly and error on my part

Can't imagine why you would be upset but wholeheartedly apologize for the occurrence.

What does your rule book say?

What is a penny test and in which rulebook is it specified?

In the case of an NBRSA regulated tournament and rulebook; equipment verifications can only be done before the first match or after the completion of an aggregate for the aggregate winner only. All other verifications are unspecified and should be ignored.............Don

Don, from the rule book:

Stock must be 2.25" or under at its widest point. No stock tape allowed. Any area of the stock that comes in contact with front and rear sandbags must be convex. Convex will be determined by placing a penny on the stock where convex shaping is required. The outer edges of the penny can not come in contact with the stock in the dimension being measured (see picture below). There must be visible space underneath the outer edges of the penny. If the outer edges of the penny exceed the width of the dimension in question the area must be clearly convex to the referees. The underside of the forend that contacts the sandbag must be convex across the entire width.

Also:

PROTESTS
Any shooter may protest his target, someone else's target, questionable guns or rests or other problems that may arise. The same plug shall be used by the referees for all scoring protests (per class) at a match. Referees will decide outcome and their decision is final. The only protest a club can charge a fee for is a scoring protest.
If any person involved in a match believes a protest was resolved inappropriately because of a misinterpretation of the rules or an adequate rule does not exist, a formal request may be submitted to the USRA for the purpose of clarifying the rules. Enough information should accompany the request to support an adequate understanding of what happened. The USRA will not overturn a decision by the referees but the possibility shall remain open to formulate an agreeable resolution beyond that of rule clarification. Any resolution will be the result of recommendation by a committee of Rangemasters not involved in the event and the committee will be comprised of no less than three Rangemasters.
