guys, i dont know what to expect from this sport. all the rumors make it sound like the first day of high school, as far as acceptance goes. i am looking at getting a new rifle. i love shooting paper at 100yd. my last gun was a 700 rem hs stock hart barrel reworked by darrel holland 6 x 20 leupold. forced to sell due to job lost. i am considering a savage lrpv 204 ruger. i will probably put nikon monarch 5x20x44 on it. with what i have to spend 1400, is this a good choice. paper, groundhog, coyote out to 400yd. i told my dealer i wanted to aim at fur out to 350 and be accurate. i will have to start out with factory ammo. im hoping for 1\2 inch at 100. any info would be greatly appriciated. sneal78@gmail.com hell i figured id join and ask the best of the best.

Sneal, you may get a better responce posting this on the Factory/Hybird Forum. FWIW, the Savage Rifles seem to shoot but, I'm a Reminigton Man and could never own one ;) Good luck.

Can you answer the mystery question?

Sneal,
As with most newcomers to BR central,we ask you a totally unrelated question, your response is scored with regard to honesty, sincerity and sense of humor. If you answer this question correctly our collective wisdom will be bestowed upon you, answer incorrectly and you will be banished forever!
Your Question is--------what is the shelf life of ---ketchup?

sneal, Wait for the 6BR LRPV that Savage is coming out with now and don't pay these people any attention. They are in need of some trigger time. I can tell you that the people that I have MET, in this sport, are the nicest people you will meet anywhere. Hang in there. You others--Go shoot somethin'.

ketchup

well around this house a bottle has a shelf date of about a week. i cant tell ya how many times i get the infamous question honey can u get ketchup on your way home. as far as true shelf date i guess ill have to 'ketchup' on my condiment dating skills to be a true benchrest member. untill then do you guys think u can cope.

Sneal,
For what it's worth, and that isn't much, I have a factory out of the box Savage model 12 .22-250 that will shoot 1/2 in. groups @ 100 yds. no problem. But I'm not a benchrest pro, so I don't know if that's good, bad, or what!

Good recommendation. But for shooting paper
I'd probably pick the soon to be released Savage F-Class in 6BR because of the stock.

LOL!

dude dates ketchup? Now THAT's hard up....... I say winner!

sneal, don't lissen to those people who tell you that BR guys are a rough crowd, they ain't. It's just that they tend to KNOW stuff from experience and certain other folks like to speculate or opine while wanting equal credence. I'm not a BR guy, I'm just a guy who tinkers around with some BR equipment and I've learned more in less time from the Bench Rest crowd than I could have learned in years of playing in my yard.

I've got no credence and I get no respect here BUT, I can find answers for life's persistent questions! IMO there's a vast difference between being "picked on" and having someone tell the truth. There's enough experience on this board, REAL experience, that it's worth any expense to one's ego. Ask the questions here and you will get answers, good answers. The best of the best do post here.

That said, you will probably generate more responses over on the factory/hybrid forum simply because BR guns themselves are specialized to the point that it's sometimes not even possible to answer questions well regarding factory choices. And yes, the factory forum is read by many of the same people.

good luck in your quest, and it IS a quest! I doubt you'll find that "one" rifle but if you post over on F/H forum you'll sure get a lot of ideas. :)
