Guys this is my first post as I just found this forum and have been searching it like crazy. I was wanting some advice on what rifle would be best for me to get. I found a gentleman instate that has a used Suhl with a Shilen Ratchet barrel and McMillian stock for sale for around $1600. It was supposedly build by Bill Myers, which from my reading is a very good thing. I have no idea on round count though. I have also found a 40X with matching numbers in pretty good shape for $900. I didn't know if I would be better off getting the 40X and upgrading later, going with the already complete Suhl, or trying to find something else. I have been keeping my eye on the Classifieds here as well. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

In southern Ohio. I have updated my profile now so it should show.

If there are any matches relatively close you should go spectate and ask a lot of questions there. Check out the rifles, the rest set ups, the ammo, the support gear, etc. After the match is over you can probably shoot some of the rifles.

Also, you might could contact the range where the matches are held and get hooked up with some of the shooters on one of their practice sessions. I let a boy and his granddad shoot my Anschutz last week. I was able to coach the boy into shooting a few 10's on an RBA target. It was the first time they had ever seen a BR setup and windflags. I am hoping they come out to spectate at Saturday's match.

Get the suhl , polished action , and all that you are talking about, is a deal !!! And supposedly a shooter !!! Jmo

If he's in state, then I would make arrangements to go see and shoot the gun. Bill Myers put his name on every barrel he smithed.

The great thing about buying a used gun is that you should be able to shoot it before you buy. As such make the trip and shoot the suhl. Bill may have put his name an all his barrels---BUT--- many were printed on and this wears off easily; thus, just because his name is not on it does not mean he did not barrel the gun. Good Luck Fred
