Help w/Bausch & Lomb Scope

I have a Bausch & Lomb 6 x 24 Balvar mounted on Remington 700 Varmit. Rifle fell off chair and landed on top of scope.....bent top scope cap. At range today, gun shot VERY high and could not even get close on correcting as I ran out of clicks. Thought about shims, but realized something happened to scope...bent tube, etc. Bushnell is closed now and I will call tomorrow. Anyone else have any thoughts? Any excellent scope repair places other than factory.

Jim,

Yes, you have bent the scope tube. As you already know, the best place to start on a fix is a call to Bushnell. The same issue with a Leupold could be addressed for a little over $100 so don't open a vein yet. Bushnell is probably the best place to get the tube replaced and the scope repaired.

Thanks for you info. I will call Bushnell in the morning. Seems like a good scope, so should be worth the repair.

My guess, based on previous experience, is that you will be replacing that scope on your own. Bushnell isn't big on replacing bent tubes. It's difficult for them to accept that this was a manufacturer's deffect and you damn sure don't want to pay their price for the repair.

But, hey, give it a shot. You might win the lottery.

When my 6 X 24 Bausch & Lomb scope, purchased in the late eighties, lenses hazed up on the inside, Bushnell would not honor their warranty. When I spoke to the service supervisor she stated that the scope was obsolete and they no longer had new "O" rings to install in it. They wanted to supply me with a brand new scope for $325 difference. I advised them their warranty stated they would, "repair or replace" a faulty scope to the original owner for the life of the scope. They made no such comment that this warranty would not apply if they deemed the scope "obsolete".

After much arguing, I told them to clean up the scope inside and use the original o'rings. They did this and returned the scope along with a canceled warranty. Needless to say, I've shied away from Bushnell products since. One never knows how good a warranty is until one tries to apply it.

So "lifetime warranty" means warrantied for the lifetime of the warranty? Interesting take. Since I have 3 of the same scopes, not too happy about that.

I will ship on Monday and let you know what happens. Do no have high hopes. Guess this is why the last 4 scope that I bought were Leupold! Also, why I have 2 Dillon presses.

"Scope at a discount", just curious...what does the warranty state that came with the scope?

Yes...this was very disappointing since I was very pleased with the scopes performance otherwise. I ended up purchasing three of them when Natchez was selling them for $168 ea. The elevation and vertical adjustments were right on, the glass was bright and clear, and the over size field lens was a joy to use. But...when I ran into the the warranty problem on the first scope...I quickly sold all three; with a caution statement to the buyers of my experience with Bushnell. However, they got such a good deal...they didn't care and decided to take a chance on them.
