Hi ya'll. I have a REM 700 300 SAUM that was rechambered to 300 WSM. I removed the 30-cal barrel and bought another Rem 700 270 WSM barrel. Once I screw it on, align the recoil lug, will it more or less be ready to rock? Are the bolt faces on the 270 and 300 WSM the same?

thanks for help - MLMC

The .270wsm and .300wsm are same/same except for the neck. Check headspace with steel go & no go gauges. Chances are that the headspace is good but, leave nothing to chance.

Excellent - I'll get some gauges off Midway. Is using them fairly cut amnd dry?

The answer is "maybe but maybe not.
Just because it is a Remington Barrel doesn't mean that it will head space properly.
It may be short chambered, which requires a gunsmith to finsh the chambering job and set headspace. If this barrel came Directly off of another Reming 700 then you have about a 50/50 chance of this working. If it is a new barrel then there is about a 75 percent chance it won't headspace correctly.
Using the gages is usually fairly easy. But lets say that your gun doesn't headspace correctly with the new barrel. What it the headspace is to short? What if the headspace is to long? what if the threads on your reciever are short enought that the bolt touches the breach of the barrel.
What will you do then?
IF rebarreling rifles was as easy as screwing in a ready made barrel we wouldn't even have this forum.
