What do you guys think on the bolt color for the Predator and Tac actions. I have found a new process that will make the bolt black, corrosion resistant and a little slicker than the armoloy for about the same cost. Personally, I like the black bolt in the predator for the contrast and an all black tac action makes sense to me, but the contrast on that one looks good too. What do you all think. I am probably gonna change to the black for the slickness factor if there is no clear cut preference.

I thought....

melonizing was a type of breast implant.:) ...Dave

I have always liked my Viper for the contrast of black receiver and gray bolt. I think a black bolt and gray receiver would look great on the Predator. The Tac should be black on black. Are you going to have the bolt color an option because I still think a lot of guys will continue to like the gray/gray Predator?

And it makes stainless look blacker than blued steel. Looks intriguing

Butch Lambert's used it.

Black or Gray Bolt

Couldn't the choice be between silver chrome or black? I am fine with the gray finish on my own Predator, but I ordered one for a customer and he thought the gray looked like spray paint. The satin chrome as used on the Vipers looks nice. I vote for silver chrome with stainless and black oxide for the black action. I might be swayed to like the black in the stainless Predator if it is noticeably slicker. How about gold TiN?

the only

choices are the gray armoloy and black. TiN is way too expensive, slow and not very durable and rusts through, been there, done that. The hard chrome is more silver, but is not as slick as the armoloy and requires the same surface prep to put it on. The benchrest actions are all armoloy now. I am leaning to going all black. I dont think anyone else even coats them. Maybe that is the better answer.

Black on black for the tac, i'll be ordering one soon.

Jerry, I think the color issue is moot. What ever you want to do is ok but, How will this color change effect delivery times of the actions. As now what are your times with the present person, what will happen when you change vendors.....

Black

on black looks great. Are any of you familiar with black chrome or black nickel? Not that they are a solution here, but definetly a nice way to finish metal parts. What kind of black coating is used on the shafts of gas cylinders that are common on rear hatches such as SUV's?

How many times can you cycle the "black" and not have significant wear showing? At around 200 rounds per match, five matches per year, plus practice, it doesn't take too long to get 5,000 cycles on the bolt.
