help please

i thinking i'm missing something that i was not aware of. i just noticed for the first time that when i logged in there was a "notification" right next to my username. never noticed it before.

when i clicked on it 5 private messages came up. i assume people have sent me private messages which i can respond to. but a couple of the messages that are in there don't seem to to have anything to do with something that i would have posted. like they got the wrong person to respond to.

can anyone help me out and explain what this deal is?

For a short period of time, there was some spam going on with the system but I think that's fixed. If they don't apply, just delete them...
