Hello to everyone and I must say thank you all for this AWESOME INFORMATION HERE:D My name is Brandon Jennings, I am 35 yrs old and FINALLY someone has opened up a very nice Range here close to home. For the last several years I have wanted to find such a location to get involved in Bench Rest Shooting, but most ranges were too far and I thought I would not get the opportunity to dedicate myself to the range the way I would like, due to the inconveinence. But now the range is only 20 min away:D and these folks have set up a very nice facility. The range is a 300 yd max with all distances acessible from any Bench. They are holding one match each month and so far these are Centerfire and Rimfire matches. Today was my first exposure to an actual shoot as I only stood back and enjoyed watching and learning what takes place. However I did meet some very informative people who have already set me in somewhat of the right direction. Mr. Richard Milton was there, and I really enjoyed speaking with him, he also put me in contact with Mr. James Mock who writes for Precision Shooting. My appreciation goes out to these guys for their time and generosity. Just knowing the right people makes it so much easier to get information, I learned that there are more opportunities around than I thought. I am pretty much centraly located in La and learned today of several other shoots that I could attend with a little planning:D

I will be reading as much information as I can consume to try and learn the sport. I will be joining the NBRSA as soon as I get my ducks all in a row here. But first things first, I am in the market for a centerfire Bench Rifle and I have many decisions to make on this choice. I will try to locate myself a nice used package if possible. For now I will only be shooting in the Rimfire Class and the Centerfire with my current guns in Hunter Class.

I am not in a huge rush for this, I do want to get going as soon as possible but Im not going to just rush out and buy the first thing that comes along, especially until I get some knowledge of what to look for. So I will be here in the forum whenever I get time and I do look forward to being an active member here. I will have many, many questions I am sure, so please excuse my ignorance for a little while anyhow:D

Welcome,
Where exactly is the range you wrote about, and what is the phone number? I have relatives in LA that might enjoy shooting there.

In addition to the range at Quitman, we have a new range at Goodwill, LA. Goodwill is just SW of Oak Grove....in the extreme Northeast portion of the state. It is probably 20-25 miles south of the Arkansas line.

Brandon called me yesterday and his enthusiasm is contagious. Perhaps he thinks that I know something about this sport. Would you that know me try to keep my true abilities a secret.:D James

James--

If your coming to Rachel's Glen this Fall, bring him with you and he can get the feel of a good match. If your not coming you can hook him up with Don G and Ritchey or Joe B. Im sure someone will have a rifle he can shoot

We shot that match last month with several guys from Shreveport / Bossier / Haughton / Bastrop to include James Mock. We had a good time. We have a match in Haughton at the Caddo Rifle & Pistol Club, first Saturday each month, come on over and play, it's about an hour and a half from you. Our COF is a score match at 100, 200, 330, 420 yards, five shots for score, unlimited sighters. Some of the guys from Quitman came over and shot it with us last time. We also shoot the 600 yard match at Goodwill from time to time, it's another good one. Good luck.

William

Sorry William

I guess I assumed that folks knew about Clark's range near Shreveport. Now we have three places to shoot in northern LA. None of these have moving backers...yet. The bunch at Oak Grove seem to be willing to hold group matches in the future. The range at Lafayette is complete except for a loading house and rest rooms. I keep hoping that the Crawfish will return to its home in the near future. Good shooting.... James

No problem James. I keep threatening to build a 6PPC, if the Crawfish comes back home I guess I will.

Yes William, I heard good things from those guys this past Saturday about the shoot at Haughton...from what I heard it sounded like you boys sure come down here to Quitman to take care of bussiness, lots of compliments were passed about last months match......and dont worry I will be coming over to Haughton shortly:D But that 600 yds at Goodwill may be a bit more than I am ready for:D but no reason I cant come over and take a gander at whats goin on!

Lots happening here in North La in the BenchRest World...I hope to meet some of you fine folks real soon. I already feel like part of the gang, thanks for the hospitality and thoughtfullness:D
