Heating a receiver

Has anyone measured the temperature you need to heat a Rem. 700 receiver to make the "locktite" they use on the barrel soft?
Also do you heat with a heat gun or a propane torch.

I use a propane torch... not much hotter than when the condensation the propane first causes to appear - disappears... if you measured it probably about 350-400 degrees. White metal would not change color.

Thank you Fred J and Dennis Sorensen that is the information I needed.

The compound that Remington applies to the threads is not a Loctite or intended to be...it is a sealant to keep the blueing salts from migrating into the thread joint and causing a permanent rust bond...it is better than having to machine out a rusted barrel tenon...

Thank you Eddie, I had always assumed it was some sort of locktite. What you say makes perfect sense and on the barreled actions I have seen apart there is no blueing on the threads or inside of the recoil lug.
