The Inaugural Hawks Ridge Gun Club 1000 Yd Match was held Saturday, March 31 (sorry for the delay in reporting). It was raining when we left the house and that may have constrained attendance (we had thirty shooters) but the fog cleared about the same time we drew for relays and benches and we started out to beautiful conditions. Over the course of the shooting day we got a full review of the moment to moment changes that Hawks Ridge is famous, or notorious for.
John Geschwilm who has honed his 600 yd craft at Piedmont but is a newcomer to 1K set the pace in LG with an outstanding 3.4" perfect 50 for the best target of the day, but the Grand Old Girl is a fickle mistress.
Johnny Schaad, also shooting his first 1K BR match (he's a seasoned prone shooter from Knoxville/ORSA) shot a 7.9" and backed it up with a 6.6" to take the shootoff win for group.
Other winners were Jamie Cass, LG Score (39), Daniel Jones, HG Group (9.2"), Charles Wooten HG Score (85), Greg Johnson, Factory Group (9.8") and yours truly, Factory Score (39).
Greg Johnson and Mike McNeil are threatening to bring their own Swede 96's to the next match. Maybe I've started something with my century old warhorse!
Complete match results should be posted soon at http://hawksridgegunclub.com
Only one bozo didn't get the memo on the two bench offset to the disc draw (we aren't using bench one and two) so we're simplifying the relay/bench draw in the hope that the president won't crossfire again.
Thanks to everyone who helped call the match, monitor the line, score the targets and keep the stats. Alvin, bring your rifle next match. Especially thanks to Patty Johnson. Patty, your cheeseburgers are Hawks Ridge worthy!
Next match is in two weeks, Saturday, April 21, 2012. EVERYONE is invited.
