hart number 4 action

It's about 8 lbs +, about 15 1/4" long. About 1.725" diameter. Built for Heavy Bench. Takes the Remington style 40x triggers (jewell, etc), 1/4" thick recoil lug. The early ones used a 40x bolt, later the bolt was redesigned w/ a newer Win M70 style extractor, not the claw. The two front screws on the sleeve extension can get about 3 1/2 turns before they bottom out on a 1.350" barrel. The bolt and port are like the Rem 40x action lengths. The barrel tenon is about a 1"+. The sleeve extension can handle a 1.375" barrel w/o touching sleeve. They are made from 4140 steel. The bolt handles were much longer than the 40x. Lock time is about 3 miliseconds. All four guard screws are 1/4 x 28. They handle the long Unertl type target scopes well and kept the bases off the barrel. Very sturdy action.

Actually you can get safely 3 1/2 turns w/ a half turn to spare before the front guard screws touch a 1.350" barrel. Just a little over three turns w/ a 1.375" barrel.

If you want to see a Hart #4 action in a cruiser style rifle send me your email for pictures. I have one with
a 5" forend stock and 3 bolts, 222/ppc/br. It's a beast.

The number 4 can also be made into a nice unlimited 22 rim fire action too, w/ a 40x rimfire bolt and loading ramp and somebody handy w/ machine tools.

As soon as I figure out how to do anything with Windows 8.1, I will post some pictures!!!
