Hey guys i'm still out here!
If your a new reader here at Benchrest Central a little disclaimer.. i'm a learning rookie. I have made several post on how i have done things but up front -they may not be 100% correct -but they seem to be working for me.
I thought it was about time for me to try a tuner so i ordered a Harrell muzzle tuner from mr. dan klilough, a great guy to do business with. I've seen pictures of the Harrell installed but never saw one in person. It was a bit smaller than what i expected. I gotta say it is a very nice made piece. I forgot to weigh it but i think it is 8oz.
It has a spring loaded steel ball that "clicks" for adjustments. I wondered how the ball could click as the outside piece moved forward and back. It's got an elongated set of groves it clicks across, i thought that was pretty neat(see pic below).
The tuner clamps on your barrel and comes with a .750 id. You bore the id to fit your bbl. Mr dan told me most go about .900 id and if your bbl is larger turn it down to .900. The 4 grove Lilja i have is .850 so thats what i bored the tuner to.
The tuner is 1.200 deep to the first shoulder. I bored 1.100 deep, that got me past the cut for the clamp. I wanted a little register to locate the bbl center. I wasn't sure how to hold the part without scratching it so i went with a layer of duct tape -not sure what others use but it worked just fine for me. i took small cuts when boring, didn't want the part to slip in the chuck jaws.. it was just too nice of a piece to scratch!
Well i accidentally got a perfect fit, imagine that!! I wiggled and bumped the tuner down by hand and it was very snug and tight before tightening the clamp -i amazed myself, lol!
I think i can pass this along, there are several very nice BC members that are helping me along with my projects. One thing i was told is -do not to over tighten the Tuner -it can cause a carbon ring.
A few months back i wouldn't have believed it but this guy is a pretty darn good rimfire contestant. Everything he has told me has been dead on.. I shoulda listened a little closer and i would have owned a tuner 6 months ago, lol!! I can't say his name but we will call him Mr Owens. I have shot the tuner some didn't see much better results. I had to cut and rechamber the lilja to fit my turbo -also redid the crown. I was thinking maybe i needed to shoot it some, maybe it wasn't the tuner just yet.
Anyway i was crying to my friend about how i ain't never gonna be no Bill Calfee... so he asks how much weight my tuner has, i told him stock and he said add "x"ozs and start about 250 on the setting.
Mr dan was out of the Von Arens weights but i had a piece of brass -bored a hole in the middle and got it right on the recommended wt. I didn't try and thread the extra weight, just had to test it so i just duct taped the extra weight on the end of my tuner.
I know 2 groups don't mean anything but its a start... i ran out of time today.. I taped on the extra weight and have not adjusted the tuner any, didn't touch it. I shot 18 rounds of club extra today i got these 2, 5 shot groups back to back today.... I want to thank everyone for their help... mr joe do you have any more of that club extra laying around!!!!!!! joe
