Harrel Powder measure advise

Hey guys I just switched from a old Lyman 55 to a new Harrell custom 90 powder measure. I played with it a bit, and found that it is super accurate. Just wondering what advise the more experienced loaders would give on how to optimize the accuracy. I know you want to go slow in lifting the handle, but what tricks do you guys have to keep it repeatable? Thanks

just a steady up and down motion with the handle worked best. No bumping the handle at top or bottom of the stroke.

Good luck with yours....virg.

When I ordered mine Lynwood told me how to operate it. He said start in the up position, come down about 45 degrees then back to the stop then dump the charge. Develope a consistent action and stick with it. That is the secret.

There is no secret. The best method in using any powder measure with the particular powder you are using, is to try different methods using a reliable powder scale to verify the accuracy of your effort. After you get a particular method to come within a tenth or two tenths of a grain after dropping ten or more powder charges, this will be the best method for that powder. At major benchrest matches you may observe ten or more different ways shooters use their measures...and all of them may be in the top ten. Some may bump at the top of the stroke, some may bump at both the top and bottom of the stroke, some may bump twice...three or more times at each end of the stroke...and they will claim their's is the BEST way to use their measure. And...you know what? They're right! For their case. As for me, I've reversed my measure handle to fill at the bottom of the stroke rather than the top. Works for me...but may not work for you.

It is up to you to experiment, dabble, and try different methods for your own load techniques. Now, fill that measure up and get to work....good luck.
