Anyone familiar with the hall sporter action?
Im torn weather to build a gun not for competition on a single shot hall or turbo or the hall repeater. How much accuracy loss would you expect from using a magazine?
 
Magazine is a no no.You risk damaging the bullit feeding it in the chamber.Nor do you have the feel of inserting it manually.Maybe you can find a magazine dummy so you can load single shot?Anschütz makes them for their repeaters for example.Perhaps they exist for Hall too?Some of the specialists here might answer that.

If not I still would try single shot but that is fiddely as you have to feed them in the chamber yourself.

If you still have to buy go for single shot.

Remember br is very addictive,in the beginning we all shoot just for the fun.But in the end you always want the utmost precision from your rifle.The fun part stays :)

If you just want a fairly accurate sporter to play around with on the bench and maybe take squirrel hunting, buy a Cooper, Kimber or CZ, but it sounds like you want to take the big step up to a Custom.

The only reason to build a custom on a sporter action, is to build a rifle to meet sporter rules, for whatever BR game you want to play. Which have very restrictive weight requirements. If you are not interested in competition, but want to play around with a really accurate rifle (and I'm assuming that is what you want to do from the actions you are considering) then start with a single shot. As for which action, I have always chosen the Turbo, it has great ignition. And I should point out - Turbo has a sporter action as well.
 
There are plenty of sporters that have shot 250 so I don’t think you loose much if any having a magazine. The Hall sporter is a great to use and exactly the same to feed as a single shot Hall action and the Hall is a lot easier to feed than a Turbo.
 
Hall makes an insert platform that replaces the magazine. I have both and find absolutely no difference in feeding nor accuracy between the two. I do not feed from the clip however. I file a groove in the magazine top plate that eliminates any tendency to roll around. If right handed, get the left port version and they feed like a dream. I prefer the older round Hall sporter(identical to the single shot. The skinny Hall is milled Octagon to save weight, but is not an improvement in my opinion

No accuracy loss between a Hall repeater and a single shot, providing you feed 'em both in single shot fashion. I never shoot mine from the magazine, although it will feed ammo from the mag I've yet to see a rifle that shot rimfire ammo as well when fed from the magazine, as it did feeding the ammo individually. Hall makes a great sporter action.

Thanks to all that chimed in. I have always felt magazines screwed up accuracy, and never been really happy with factory guns. Id be smithing the barrel myself and greatly enjoy learning from you guys and all your tricks. Im going to call and talk to Allen tomorrow. So if single shot action shot in the .1 or .2's that same gun clip fed would shoot??? Next question, inletting, is the hall action the same inletting as remington 700 single shot or its own?

Go back and read all posts except Pieters. If you don't fed from the clip, there is no loss of accuracy. The Hall action is shorter than the 40X and action screw spacing is shorter by 3/8"
