Hall Action Question

I am looking at buying a used Hall Model M varmint rifle and am wondering if a good benchrest gunsmith can produce a barrel for a Hall without actually having the rifle as they do for my Viper? Thanks. Tom

Tom;
He can take dimensions and thread wire measurements to allow the barrel to be replaced. If you use the same smith he can retain the records and reproduce the barrel. Be sure he records the weight as some tapers differ from one barrel maker to another. If he can't do this simple proceedure I'd go riflesmith shopping.

I wouldn't do it myself. Allan never was known for consistancy. There were minor differences from lot to lot.

Dave is being kind. There were inconsistencies from action to action, I think. They were good actions, especially the 'M' and 'B', but I never understood why Allan wouldn't work to a standard. I asked him once and he just said that proves his actions were truly custom. Just another reason I prefer the Panda/Grizzly II. There are several Hall 'M' actioned rifles for sale at the Super Shoot.

Thanks for the input. I thought that I had read about inconsistencies between actions but was not sure. It is nice to just call and have somebody make another barrel but it is not the end of the world to send the rifle or old barrel off to duplicate. Tom

If you are going to barrel a specific Hall action and gather dimensions from that action I sure don't see a problem with that. Can you call a 'smith and order a barrel for a generic Hall action?? Probably not....
