I made the spider out of 12L14 steel, but it's not critical. The bore is 2 inches and there is a 0.2-inch deep 3.375-in. diam. counterbore on the hidden side, which is what the TL-1 wants. The clamping screws are 1/2-20. I plan on making brass noses for the screws.
Have you had a chance to use the machine yet spencer313? Your review would be most appreciated.
I've got the Haas video on it, and I'm contemplating building a bigger shop to accomodate a TL-1. Watching the video of that baby threading is just awesome. Runs on single phase too, which is way cool.
I have some hours under my belt with the TL-1, now. It does very nice work. It will take some getting used to for someone who needs to feel the dials, though. But good rigid tooling, some practice with the control and a couple of projects later, and I can say I love it. And the control doesn't get tired or grumpy with repetitive operations.
I have a Tl-2 , great lathe for the price , it threads with ease and programming is simple especially with the intutive system , i like your spider !! hope you don't mind if i copy it
