Gunsmith in WNC

I was reading the thread on smiths in central NC. But was wondering if there are any precision smiths to chamber and re barrel a 6ppc. Nat had suggested Blair Clovis in Greensboro but I can't find any contact info for him.
If Nat couldn't do it I thought I would see if anyone was closer to the Asheville area. It would be nice to see the shop where the work is to be done

The smith that you're probably thinking of in Boone, would most likely be James Coffee. His # is 828-264-8184. He does a lot of work for Jim Williams who has quite a few things listed in the classifieds. He has only done a very small bolt job for me, so I can't say one way or the other what his work is like. However, Jim speaks very highly of him.

What about Leonard Baity in North Wilkesboro? I don't have any experience with him, he is an advertiser on Benchrest Central under "Actions". I remember seeing his name on equipment lists for long range shoots.

Gunsmith in western NC

Charlie Joins in Sparta, NC is a very good Gun Smith.

James Messer, is also very well known. I think he is in the Sylva area.

There are several in Eastern TN and SW Virginia.

Carolina Precision Rifles, near Agusta, SC has a pretty good reputation.

Why NC? Bunch of good BR type smiths in the USA. USPS still ships rifles. Not saying anything bad about the NC guys as they are as good as anybody. Any particular reason? It is cheaper to ship unless you want to look over their shoulders.

One reason was in hopes to hang around a little to learn anything I could.
The other was in hopes of someone who did not have a 6 month or so lead time

Most of the good craftsman that I know really don't have time for somebody to hang around. The good ones are way behind and can only show you ass's and elbows.

My normal rate is $65.00 per hour. Working and supervising the overseeing customer equals $95.00 per hour and causes half the production rate.

Most liability insurers don't want customers in the shop.

I'll sit and chew the fat for a while with a friend, but when I'm working on a rifle I need all my attention on the work so I do it when I'm alone.

I understand and don't mean to say I would be trying to look over their shoulder. But meeting the man and asking a few questions
Is what I'm after
Thanks again
