I'm planning on putting Gun Koat on a 700 action with a Shilen #7 standard varmint barrel. The action has been blue printed and all that good stuff. My question is; if I use the bake on paint will having to bake the action for one hour at 300-325 degrees cause the barreled action to distort, warp etc effecting accuracy?

steel does not start to change properties in the solid state till over 500 degrees farenheight. so to answer your question like the other poster stated, 300-350 degrees NO. however dont run your oven to 500 OK! Fred

I doubt even 500 degrees is enough to hurt the temper- they are stress-relieved at far higher than that and the action has to be drawn back somewhat as well. The bolt might be the only thing that is tempered that cool.
