Gun Cleaning Question?

How often do benchrest rimfire competition shooters clean their guns? I know that larger bore competitors clean often, but I heard that rimfire competitors will clean their rifles less often. Is that true?

Perhaps the proper question may be, How many rounds on average do you put through your .22 BR rifle before you clean it? I imagine that the answer is different for everyone.

Any input you have would help me take better care of my rifle.

Thanks!

Cleaning

Great,

I'll make sure to clean my rifle...ive put 500 rounds through it since the least cleaning.

see what your rifle likes. for me I clean after every 2 targets 1 wet patch and 3 dry. I use a brush after every couple matches or more if I shoot a lot between matches. every rifle is different but this seems to work for me. Dale

A fellow competitor told me what was happening to his gun. After cleaning, the gun would start gaining velocity for about 15 shots. Then it would settled down for another 15 to 30 shots. Then the velocity would change again. This could be the reason why you have a great tring if X's or 100's, before the gun go crazy again. Let the barrel tell you when to clean. I hace to do a complete cleaning after 2 ARA target.
