I've always measured group size as the distance between the centers of the widest two shots in the group.
Some measured groups, that I see printed in shooting magazines lately, make me wonder if I'm nuts.
Two examples:
1. Latest issue of Guns & Ammo has an article in it about a new Thompson Center heavy barrel Icon.(Don't blame me,the wife got me this subscription when the neighborhood school kids were raising money)
The author references an included target group (page 40)that he says measures 0.40". The caliber is a .308 and it appears like there is at least 1/2" between the perforations of the two widest shots. If you add 0.300",that makes it at least 0.800"
2.Latest issue of Precision Shooting - page 83 Wes' target #8 - supposedly a 0.402" group !
The widest .22 perforations appear to be about 1 and 1/2 .22 holes apart.Add .200" and you are over 1/2 inch.
BTW - the #11 target sure doesn't look like a 0.154" group either,NOR does the #15 target look like a .398" group.
Now,I've read a lot of Wes Lefler's stuff and I respect his writing so I'm wondering.
Could it be that the esteemed Editor printed the wrong picture of the groups? Did Kim go on vacation and leave Dave on his own?
