Good News,,,

Gene,
Is it different than the die I bought from you a few years back? After all this time the rifle should be coming back from the stockmaker. Been working on this for 3-4yrs.

Hi Butch

The die you have is identical to the new batch. All made with the same reamer.

Hey, glad to hear that little custom is nearing completion. That will be a very unique rifle; the first 'carry it around' hunting rifle to be chambered in 220 Beggs. Can't wait to see it.

Gene.
what is the correct go-no go gage?

220 Russian is what I use and prefer.

There is one gauge that is specifically marked 220/6mm Beggs that is .010 shorter than the regular 220 russian gauge for which the cartridge was originally designed. I won't go into details but it was provided to solve a problem that did not exist.

Hi Gene thanks.

My 220 Beggs Tin Can shooter based on a Mini Mauser. Waiting to get it back from the woodstock and rust blue guy. Hope to have it by the end of August.

Gene, my headspace gauge says 6mm Beggs.

That will be a sweet little rifle. Can't wait to see and shoot it. :)

No problem on your headspace gauge. Your chamber will simply be .010 shorter which will perfectly fit the no-turn 6 Beggs chamber. As a matter of fact, the no-turn 6Beggs cartridge was what prompted me to provide the Beggs GO/NO-GO gauge in the first place. Some were complaining that a brand new, out of the box Lapua 220 Russian case had too much headspace on the first firing if you used a standard 220 Russian gauge to chamber the rifle. So Dave Kiff and I decided it would be best to provide a gauge for this specific application. Oh well, it sure is hard to keep everything standardized and perfect; isn't it?

Anyway, I really didn't feel it was a problem; once the case is fired one time the little bit of excess headspace disappears, but,,, you know how people are. If in their mind something isn't perfect they won't have it. All was then well and good except for one thing; the sizing die was too long.

Yep, if you chamber .010 short .010 must be removed from the base of the die in order to bump the shoulders after they tighten up a bit. Use a carbide insert to remove the .010 from the base of the die. Takes about five minutes.

Oh yes, one more thing; the loaded round neck diameter of a no-turn 6Beggs cartridge is .271. The hole in the Hornady die that separates the body part from the neck bushing pocket is only .270 which requires one to hone out about three or four thou. The no-turn 6 is the only one of the Beggs cartridges that requires this.

Onward through the fog in pursuit of perfection! :)

Wow, a controlled round feed Mauser with a three-position safety, good trigger and bottom metal and short in length to perfectly match the cartridge. That's class.
