Good front rest

Hello All,

I'm interested in upgrading my front rest from a Caldwell Rock BR. I also have a Caldwell Fire-Control Rest.

I know Sinclair makes one, Fudd makes one (although they have no website that I can find). Also, I saw that some people mix and match the rests and the tops.

Can someone recommend some to me?

Steve

For score shooting, I'd go with a coaxial rest. For group, I'd probably still go with the coaxial, but it becomes more a decision based on personal preference. The fast mobility of the joystick rests is almost a necessity for score shooting. A few do still use a windage top style rest though. A good stick type rest can be good for either group or score. Not so much so, for the windage top rests IMO.--Mike

What is a coaxial rest?

Butch just replied to me, and mentioned that the model 2 isn't available. So everyone out there must have the model 1. I like that rest, as well as the Pappas. I will probably go for those.

I recently got one of the No 1's. Fortunately I coupled it with a windage rest because it will not traverse an IR 50 target at 50 yards. Nicely made rest though.

Don,

How did you do that?

Steve

My rest is a J-J which has windage built into the rest. The Fulgham (Randolph Machine) has that feature too. They are my two favorite rests. Just wanted to try a joystick since some of my friends have and like them. So added the Shadetree as a top. That leaves the windage intact as well as the mariners wheel for extra elevation. Probably what my parents used to call "gilding the lily".

I want to shoot 50Y to 200Y, so unless I buy two, this rest isn't good!

Steve
I got the Model 2 when they first came available. I have used it at 50yd factory rimfire club matches and 100yd, 200yd factory centerfire score matches at my club. So for, I have won every factory centerfire br match shot this year at the local club. I'm pretty well outgunned by the Anschutz 54s in the RF factory matches. It is a little touchy at 200yd, but you can get use to it. Last year at 200 I shot the wrong target in 2 matches. It has 8-10 feet of windage at 200yd, so I need to check the target number before every shot to make sure I'm shooting mine. So Steve, maybe you should have some experience with the rest before making statements about it not being good.

PS I also have a Hoen windage top on a Hart base, a Fudd top and Fudd base, and a one piece Hongisto Rest for ARA. The only 2 piece setup I use is the Shade Tree on the Fudd base, even though this rest is suppose to be for 50 yd.

Jerry,

The number 2 isn't available anymore. I'm probably going to get the original one, and to move in windage, I'll have no problem nudging the rear rest (a Protektor).

I like that rest, and I have a Caldwell that I can mount it on.
