Hello All!

Can someone recommend a good 6PPC bullet for mostly 100yd. I will probably use either H322 or Benchmark. Vitavorhi powders are hard to find right now in my area.

My God, there are so many fine custom bullets available, it's hard to say which one. You wouldn't go wrong getting Berger which is available from many mail order places, then there is Barts, Bruno, and just look at the classifieds right here. Many top shooters make their own.

Steve,

I have really nothing more to add that Mr. Shaw didn't say....

Two bullets come to mind that are typically fairly easy to get in tune, one a custom another a semi-custom...

Custom: the Bart Ultra 66gr... The 68gr Ultra a close 2nd.......... I compare the 66 Ultra to my own bullets out of an OUTSTANDING set of Larry Blackmon 6mm bullet dies.

Semi custom: Berger 65gr BT......... Shoots amazing in a wide range of barrel / chambers... I know of several 6mm BR shooters whom speak HIGHLY of this bullet from 100yds out to 600... I shot a (weep) 249 24x with this bullet a few years ago....!

There are PLENTY of FINE 6mm (60 - 70gr) bullets for = or slower 13 twist barrels... Heck, I have played around with Sierra 70gr Blitz King in 14twist BR Kreigers.... Would shoot aggs right at .250.... But not quite good enough to get below that level of accuracy...

As with REAL good barrels, REAL good bullets shoot at a high level with minimal fuss... Hummer barrels and Superman bullets are just this BUT are IMOP are at ANOTHER level...!

I started a couple of friends with H322 extreme and Berger 68 gr. bullets, the latter with rifling marks about 1/3 as long as wide, or a little more. Both were able to make minor powder adjustments and shoot groups under .2 with excellent rifles, on easy days.

I just checked with one of them. We started him with a load from a very experienced competitor, 28.3 and he dialed it in for his rifle, and the conditions, to 28.5, and shot the previously mentioned groups. To get him started, I had set his seating depth, using his rifle as mentioned above.

What does BT mean, "ballistic tip" or "boat-tail"?

Steve

caroby is referring to boat tail's there. All the answers you got are good, I really like Bart's Ultra's in my 6PPC and he is a really nice guy.

Steve, you need a mentor, BT = boat tail, don' be afraid to ask an expierenced br shooter locally for some help. Seems to me that there are a number of br competition shooters in Florida. Go to a registered match, ask questions, you'll get all kinds of help.

I don't live in Florida!

Steve, Boyd gave great advice with the load and bullet. You can learn a great deal using that load. A little tweaking here and there, but a very stable load. I agree with David too, boat tails can be finicky, stick with a good flat base until you get the itch to try other stuff.

Well then good for you, your handle leaves a person to believe that you do. I live in Tennessee and am proud of it, they call me The Yankabillie. Now then if you are wantin some help, if that is what you want, we should have an inkling of where you might be hailing from, continue to be criptive and NO HEP will be following, savy?

Yes boyd has some solid info, but he always does! Just my 2 cents and i can help you get some of these bullets if you so choose. By far the easiest bullet to tune and shoot, that i have ever fired is a 66gr George Ulrich BT. They are called uglies, because they look like little footballs. They have a very blunt ogive, 6 i think, and they are super easy to shoot. I have never once had a barrel that wouldnt shoot them well to excellent! George himself will even tell you they are easy to make shoot. Almost like cheating, i think! Lots of good info here and i am sure your about half overwhelmed. Whatever bullet you choose go with something with a more blunt ogive rather than something real pointy. A 6 or 7 ogive will by nature be easy to learn with than say a 9 ogive. This is my experience anyway! Good luck and feel free to call me anytime. Lee

While best known for his .30 cal. bullets, R.G. Robinett (BIB Bullets) makes killer 22's, 6mm's and .25's as well.

I spent this morning working with my 6PPC and Randy's 65's (.790 jacket). They shot dots with both N133 and 'pulldown' 8208 in a 14 twist Bartlien.
