Do as anybody know the proper way to glue a action back in a benchrest stock? It is a suhl 150 with a bedded fiberglass benchrest stock.I heated and took the action out to repaint the stock so now I need to put it back in!Thanks for any help,Jamie

Leave the release agent out of the process.

Rough up and degrease the old bedding and degrease the action. Put a thin ( very thin ) coat of adheasive on the existing bedding. Do do glue the tang section ( area behind the trigger ). Lower barrelled action into stock and secure with action screws. Do not over tighten action screws. Wipe the little bit that may seep out on the sides of the action before it sets uo. Vinegar works well. I use J-B Weld.

Ok It didn`t have any action screws but I`ll figure something out. Thanks for your help.

If you don't have action screws, a technique I've used an o-ring around the barrel out by the fore end (and, if needed, tape in the barrel channel under the o-ring for spacing everything). With the o-ring as a pivot point, gravity alone is usually enough.

Good Point

The action screws or just a thread stud, allows you to align the action to the stock. If you use action screws, do not over torque. Like Charles said, just the weight of the action is sufficient if it all properly aligned.

I talked to James Messer today and he said if I would bring it to him he would take care of it.So I believe that`s what I`m going to do.The main thing I am worried about is getting my accuracy back when all is done.So I`d say this will be one less worry if I let him take care of it.I bought some acra-gel and tried it on a piece of wood and a nail I cleaned them and glued together but I was not satisfied with the hold.Oh well it`s going to be alright. Thanks guys!

When glueing an action into the stock I like to use a length of small surgical rubber tubing about 23 feet long. Wrap it around the action just tight enough to hold it snug. If you use screws just use blanks to guide the action to the right location. Works fine for me.
