Glass bedding a Remington xcr

I just picked up a Remington xcr compact. It has a Bell Carlson stock with aluminum bedding blocking. I'm considering glass bedding it also, is it worth it and how far out onto the barrel should I go? It's the 20 inch heavy barrel. I've put a Jewell trigging on, any other suggestions? Planning on using this rifle for varmints but would like to have it shoot as well as possible.

Thanks

If the barrel is floating when the action is in the V block I would shoot it as is.

If the barrel is not floating, I would float it.

Glass bedding the action is always an option... and sometimes that is required for the barrel to sit in the middle of the barrel channel.

Barrel seems to be free floated, guess I'm just hopping to keep the action a little stiffer by skimming.

Rest your index finger between the barrel and forend then loosen off the front action screw, if you can feel the barrel move away from the forend then the rifle will shoot better if you bed the action to the stock. Or if you have a dial indicator, check for how much movement you have between the barrel and forend. I use .002" as my break point as to what I will rebed or not. Anything over .002" of movement, I'll rebed, anything less than that, I won't. The reason I use .002" as the break point is because that was what Frank Wilson told me a long time ago. Frank shot a lot of hunter class rifles and they had to be bedded. He said if there is more than .002" movement, they won't shoot and that has been my experience as well.

Had a chance to mess with the rifle and did as Mike recommended and found that the when I loosened the front action screw the barrel actually got a little closer? This seems to be the opposite of what I would have expected. I'm guessing that there may be pressure on the end of the action or very front of the barrel?
