I have always used a loop and patch when cleaning. Now I have some nice shooting rifles and don't want to damage the barrel. Should I switch to jags? I use a bore guide. Thanks.
A lot of shooters will tell you to use only a jag but I have used the slotted tips for 40+ years on bolt action rifles and I have not damaged a throat or crown in that time. Just be careful, clean only from the chamber end and use a good bore guide. Others may disagree, but there is disagreement on almost everything!
