gas port question

a friend has a 338 lapua barrel off an ar type rifle and looking at the gas port with my bore scope it appears to be pretty rough with metal burrs in the bore. the muzzle side of the hole appears to have the greatest amount of metal protruding from the gas port hole. my question is, is there any way to remove the burrs and smooth the bore. i think the port hole is about .070 diameter. the rifle shoots about 3 inch groups at 100 yds. with good ammunition and the manufacturer says we have to shoot at longer distances for it to shoot better. go figure. thank you for any help you can give me with this.

A friend had an M1 carbine (Universal?) that had a good-sized burr at the gas port. I ground a sharp bevel on a piece of drill rod (1/4" ?) and hardened it. Then slid it down the barrel until the burr caught it, and tapped with a hammer. I scrubbed it with a bore brush, and gave the rifle back to him. Think I told him to shoot some FMJ...

In your particular case, I think the manufacturer should replace that barrel.
