Gary Walters The Deer Hunter......

Doug Penttinen

"TESTED TEXAS TUFF"
To All: This really is not all about center fire bench rest but yet some of it is !!!

Can you imagine trash talking about a deer hunting lease in South Texas.. If you look on a map for Doole, Texas you will find it outside of Brady, Texas by about 30 miles which is known for the deer hunting capital of Texas.. I was on this particular lease for 5 years with my buddy Glen Chism whom some of you know and we have taken our share of very nice deer... Now the story goes that poor Gary has been down on this lease for several years now and kept telling everybody "NO BIG DEER HERE"... Now can you imagine waking up this morning and going to your ground blind and having this start your day

It all changed this morning, By the way this is a 600 acre lease with free ranging deer, not high game fence either. I got a phone call this morning from Glenn and he tells me that Mr. Walters, the same guy who is the match director in Tomball shot one of the biggest deer in that part of the territory in many many years. A huge 16 pt Buck. I hear that it probably weighed close to 200 lbs and Glenn tells me that Gary was shaking like he had a bad cold chill and was thinking he had better call 911 before he passed out from the excitement of killing such a monster Buck on a place where there are no bucks (Ha Ha Ha Ha) ....Glen asked Gary what time he shot the buck, he said Gary looked at his watch but was trembling so bad he could not read his own watch !!!! First of all I would like to say congrats to my friend on this acomplishment.

Now here is the Bench Rest part of the story.... He shot the deer with a Hvy Barrel 6MM BR and a 68 gr bench rest bullet..... In the neck..... and dropped him like a sack of tators !!!!

WHAT IS UP WITH THAT !!!!! Deer hunting in South Texas with a Bench gun. Tell me us Texans don't have big KaHunas...

Anyway I'm hoping Gary will post some pictures of this acomplishment.... Congrats Gary you be Da-Man !!!

So with that in mind... What i read in your post to me is that you did not believe my story.....Thats not very nice of you Butch and Gary will be posting pictures

You always did have a way with words.....Ha Ha Ha Ha

"Dougie" you have always had trouble with reading comprehension. Nothing was intimated that what you wrote wasn't true. I had already visited with Glenn about it. Don't be so sensitive.

What in the world gave you the idea I was a sensative guy.... "Comprehension" I had to look that up.... You know me I just like to stir the pot in the other direction... I'm only sensative with my wife.... Ha Ha Ha

How have you been doing. I heard at one tiime your health was giving you a little bit of trouble.. Hope your OK and plan to have a Great Thanksgiving...

Aw c'mon Gary,
How about some field pictures ! Beautiful freekin' deer like that and the " majesty" is lost with a photo of a skull cap and a couple of rattlin' antlers. How 'bout a little story line and some end of the blood trail pics. Congratulations none the less( I aint never seen a buck like that in the wild)but should I ever be so lucky as to take one, I would certainly get some " John Wayne" photos with me and the deer and the bow( yeah ,I know it's a rifle kill, but he's still a beauty!). Being as he's a Texas buck he probably only weighed 120 lbs or so( soakin' wet) which would have made some"complete" deer photos even more impressive. But then again, it's probably 75 degrees all night long down there ,which would have rotted him right off the rope in a couple of nights.Different latitudes, different cultures. Congrats, would like to see photo's of the mount when you get it back. Hey,how bout a full body mount, runnin' through your living room, that would be cool !
Joel
p.s. Gary, just read the other thread about the deer pictures deletions for the tree huggers on BR Central. Please send in the field pictures to me at jnader@rochester.rr.com. Thanks,

Nader,

Many of us on Benchrest Central hunt and fish...

But this website is privately owned and is free to join with very few rules...

After much discussion quite some time ago the owner of this site made a decision... no pictures of dead animals... nothing to do with hugging trees... no need to be upset or categorize anyone.

Now that's what I'm talking about !!!!! Way to go Glenn.....

Ya Know at the up coming "Crawfish shoot in 2011 could present a problem... We won't be able to post any pictures of people eating "Crawfish" and having a good time... Imagine that !!
