Gary passed out on the way home from Sparta. He hit 2 cars and a concrete barrier and was stopped by a fence. He has a broken hip, jaw broke in 2 places, broken nose, broken cheek and a skull fracture over his right eye. He is in ICU at WF Baptist Hosp. in Winston Salem. He is conscious and knows who is in the room , he can not talk for a breathing tube. Greg Davis has been in to see him and asked me to post for him. We will update as we know something.

I'll have my wife put him in the prayer list. She has more influence than me. Sure hope for a speedy recovery for him

Thanks Craig. Tell Gary we're thinking of him and hoping for a speedy recovery.

Todays update:

repair & wire jaw

surgery to repair hips

Both were sheduled, jaw was completed, not sure on the hip.

All prayers are needed. Gary has a long road to recovery. Keeping his sugar controlled is not going to be easy since he can't eat.

Gary went out of his way helping myself and all newcomers to rimfire benchrest. I hope God rewards him with a speedy and painless recovery.

Thanks to all.

Has anyone heard how Gary is getting along now? If anyone hears anything please post it to this thread. Thanks.

Update Sun. aft.

Just talked to Greg Davis, doctors think maybe Gary had a stroke and wrecked , was paralyzed on left side can move now. They stabilized his hip Tuesday and now in traction. As yet nothing done to his jaw or face. He can open his eyes now. And remembers who has been in the room. Lets hope he continues to improve. Craig

I was at Bull's Eye Monday, and Larry said the hip surgury was done. It's the same hip that was broken before, so at least he will not be suffering with both sides. The facial surgury was scheduled for Monday, but has been put off. The doctors didn't know if the stroke was during the wreck, or during the surgury. He was paralized on his left side, but is wiggling his fingers and foot. That sure is a good sign. The doctors say it is common for this to happen during surgury, but usually there is 100% recovery. The doctors didn't know at the time whether there would be ANY recovery. The phone was ringing off the hook at the gun store. Everyone was wanting an update. He's at Presbiterian hospital in Winston Salem, I think?
Larry is talking about having a family/fun/rimfire shoot and cook out to help with some of the bills and Nancy's hotel fee's while she is staying with him. He wants to sneak it in before deer season. He will be on vacation this coming week, but I am sure someone will post details on here as it grows closer.

9/23 Update

More good news. Gary continues to move both left arm & leg!

Brad, I got with Larry and he agreed I could do the daily post to save him some time to organize the shoot for funds for Gary.

I already have people wanting to donate, and God Bless you all.

You can send any checks to me:

Be sure and put Gary Shelton Fund on the check. I'll keep records so Gary will know who helped.

God bless
