28 rifles competed on Saturday May 3 at the Gallatin Gun Club Ultimate Benchrest match. More than half of those were in Custom class with the other three classes almost evenly divided. The morning started with temps in the low 60's but quickly warmed up to the upper 70's by the end of the day. All of the regulaars hope to see a true "trigger pull" one day, but this one wasn't it. From the first relay the winds were gusting to 12-14 mph and switching early and often. But if one was patient, he could occasionally find a condition to shoot. After lunch we moved out to 200 yards and the wind moved with us, increasing another few mph. The bonus was, it was absolutely beautiful and although the conditions were tough to shoot it, it was a fine day. We had the highest overall scores so far this season with 5 competitors scoring over 500 for the Grand Agg and one existing record was tied.
