FYI:.... Smaller than 1/8 MOA dot from Leupold.

Several weeks ago I decided I would like to try something smaller than a 1/8 MOA dot in one of my Leupold comp scopes.

Realizing Leupold offered nothing other than a 1/8 and that if it were done outside Leupold the warranty would be void, called Leupold and discussed the chance of having a reticle from a different power scope installed to end up with a smaller than 1/8 dot on paper.

I discussed this with Garth Kendig, from I believe the customs shop. He investigated the idea to find it was possible. E.G.: as I understand, if a reticle from a 40x were installed into a 45x it would reduce the 1/8 dot size by 20% or to 3/32" when viewed through the 45x.

I sent in a 45x scope to try this and have since received it back; and in my estimation it is now a 3/32 dot, GREAT and the warranty is still in tact.

Just though this bit of info may be helpful to others looking for a smaller dot. Cost was $60.00

Garth said if anyone is interested to call the main number (1-800-538-7653) and ask for him and he will be happy to help.

If I had a choice between Garth Kendig - leupold and Wally Siebert I know which one I would choose for optical work ...

This is the result of experiance.

Stonewall,

I think you missed my point. Please re-read it carefully.

My post in NO WAY compared Leupold & Wally and certainally was NOT NEGATIVE toward Wally.

I think Wally is great and if it were not for LOOSING the LEUPOLD WARRANTY would have had Wally do it.

don't worry

don't worry , be happy ( : 0 )

glenn has not shot at any BR matches in a decade, he only uses the scope to spy on his nieghbors apartment, so a larger dot is not his style, it blocks the view,

thanks for the post In Canada it is the same the price may vary a little jeff

Thank you shinny for the information and I understand exactly where you are coming from.
