FX Independence (or Indy)

OK guys, I'm completely out of the air rifle loop, my "good rifle" is an RX-1. I've tested and fired some PCP's but have never owned one.

I'm a newbie to this forum..... I've only posted over here one time, concerning a Benjamin Marauder...... I'm not very familiar with air rifles and know none of you.

But I has a question.

I was recently made aware of the FX 'Independence' rifle and if proves to be HALF as cool as my initial research indicates I WILL HAVE ONE!

So, my question.

How hard is it to change out barrels on the FX rifle? Are they threaded? Pinned? Pressed?

I have a lathe and mill, barrel vises etc and am familiar with CF rifle work.

TIA

Barrels are not difficult to change. Three set screws hold them in place.

It is a great hunting rifle but if you want something for benchrest get a pcp.

I'm not sure if after shooting these groups Dan regularly used a cleaning brush on the couple of inches of impressed "rifling" at the muzzle of the so-called "smooth twist" barrel; or whether accuracy degraded over time.

The FX factory supplied a short little nylon brush for cleaning with my ST barreled PCP Elite .25. Because the pellets don't comply with the twist rate of that short rifled section and swage through it, it tends to get leaded up in time. But then all barrels require regular cleaning for best performance. ... Regards, Harry in OZ.

Unfortunately I was never able to reproduce those results. That particular day was just after a thunderstorm and the conditions were eerily calm. In addition to the calm I think I just got lucky. The gun was really a 2-2.5" grouper at 100yard with the factory ST barrel.
Put a good Benchmark or Krieger on it and I could average about 1.5" or so.

Four successive groups like that don't come through luck Dan; weather conditions, yes.

Best regards, Harry. (I have corrected my misuse of "weather" to "whether" in my response above) .

Just less junk to break or what? Tank too small?

For those who don't realize it, this rifle does come with air fittings.

DanB,

are you the guy who's recently used one of these things in registered competition?

I use to use it in its factory form for benchrest. It was a bit much to lift off the bench and pump three times for each shot. I have since added tanks and and a regulator to it.

Ya, that gun sure is a beauty - right up until you have to shoot against it! Up here in the northeast Dan is constantly beating the rest of us up with that gun. But, then again, Dan is beating the rest of us up with any of his guns.

Thanks Dave. To be clear, I get my butt kicked plenty around here. It's a good thing I wasn't at the NE regionals, you and Paul would have beat me up;)
