Fudd Front Rest

Prelude 2.0

I just bought a used Fudd front rest with a windage top. I noticed that the windage top is not square or perpendicular to the rear leg of the rest. I assume the center post is somehow attached to the windage top with a mechanical fastener. Do I need to take the windage top "completely" apart to make the windage top square with the base? There are a bunch of pieces that make up the windage top. I don't want to take apart the windage top, more than necessary, and have springs flying all over the place and loosing them.

Also, can the top be reversed so the windage knob is on the right side for a left handed shooter?

Thanks in advance.

OK, right up front I probably don't know what I'm talking about!

The tops are fastened to the threaded elevation rods in different ways but if it's not welded you might be able to give it a hefty twist and make it right. Next step would be to tap it sharply with a dead blow hammer but not hard enough to break anything. Alternatively, if nobody knows how it's made you can always leave it that way and get used to it.

Yes, the top can be set up left hand. I told Scott I was left handed and he sent it for a left handed shooter. Didn't do it myself so I can't tell you how to do it but I know it can be done. Told him what base I was using and he sent the correct post. Mine was a little off too and I took care of it but don't remember how I did it. Guess I'm getting old. I do remember I took it all apart and cleaned and lubed it when I got it. Lined it up then. Wasn't that big a deal.

Easy to take apart. Take 1 end piece off, doesn't matter which one, then slide the top off. Under that you will see a hex head screw in the center. Loosen the screw, align the post then retighten the screw. re-assemble the top.

If anyone knows of someone wanting to sell a Fudd rest or just the top email or PM me. Thanks. Greg

Thanks for everyone's recommendations. I decided to email Scott Hamilton for directions.

I have found after selling over 700 rest tops that manufacturing tolerances will not allow every rest top to be perpendicular to the back leg.

I tried emailing and calling Scott for a few days now but he hasn't emailed me and no one answers his business phone. Maybe he's on a trip.
