The top photo is Bob Brackney's system out of Arizona, the bottom photo is Bucky's, I believe there has been a change to the mounting system. Larry, the centerfire gents would know and steer you in the right direction.

I know that I am showing my age but...

At some point there will be a need for a modern target scope without internal adjustments. Weren't there were several adjustable mounts in the '50s and '60s?

Let me count

Lyman, Balvar, Unertl, and a few other off brands that had no name on them. The main problem with those scopes today, is the excess weight.

I just read it somewhere?? that Unertl is going to start making 2" target scopes again. I suppose we've all heard that for years though. Thanks, Douglas

I called Unertl 2 years ago and asked them that very same question and was told "probably some time in the future". I think I gave them my name to place on a waiting list or for notification of information but have never heard anything.

Is There A Piviot On The Front Base? Or What Allows The Scope To Move Without Binding?

On the top set up, black rings, there is a neoprene or similar bushing inside the front ring that fits tight on the scope and is clamped onto by the ring. That allows the scope to move around, essentially a ball joint of sorts in the front ring.

The lower set up, silver rings and a base, the front mount has a narrowed extension ahead of the front mounting point. That narrowed area creates a place where the base bends. The adjustment screws at the rear are moved and the base pivots/bends/deflects at that narrow section so the scope tube is not in a bind.
