Frozen Fingers Follies January Results

The match turned out to be everything I had hoped for, and more. The forecast had been for us to receive 2 to 3” of snow at the range throughout course of the day with most of the heavy snow staying to our south, which was right on-the-money. Even with such as light amount being predicted I had wondered if anyone would want to chance the trip up the hill as the local roads are usually never cleared until near the end of any storm, and Saturday was exception. And with Paul Bendix expecting a healthy 5 to 7” at his home, which it did, I really didn’t expect to see him.
But, Paul had arrived shortly before I did, so that was good. Of course, the first thing he proceeded to do was fall flat on his Ass slipping on the snow-covered ice as soon as his feet hit the ground while getting out of his truck. He seemed okay at the time, but I haven’t talked to him since so don’t know what the repercussions of that fall were.
With that type of forecast I never thought the fearless duo from New York, Todd Banks and Rick Ingraham, would chance the trip over Hogback Mountain. But I was wrong! They pulled in shortly after Paul had gotten the wood stove up and running. If you knew the terrain between here and there, you’d have been shocked too.
Mark Normandin was the next to arrive, but that was no big surprise as his trip wasn’t much different than mine as we both live about 15 miles to the south (as the crow flies). Plus, with Mark sporting his brandy new RAW TM1000 in .177 and wanting to see how it matched up against the rest, I don’t think much short of Hell or High Water was going to stop him from coming.
Then Dan Brown and Daniel Finney came rolling in, and the match was set at 7 shooters. Now, that may not sound like a whole lot of shooters to most of you, but it made this the biggest Air Gun event to date at Pinnacle Mountain.

At the beginning of the day the temp was well embedded into the single digits and only warmed to the mid-teens at best by matches end. The Shoot’n Shack warmed to either side of 40°, depending on whether the portholes were opened or closed, so that seemed nice and toasty whenever we came back in after hanging and retrieving targets. As for the matches title, the Frozen Fingers Follies, that proved to be a bulls-eye as everyone’s fingers, bar none, froze to the bone whenever at the bench and the breeze came blowing straight down the range. Thank God for that big old wood stove!

So, how did we do:
Todd and Rick both shot LV CLASS
Todd Banks:
Target 1: 244-7x
Target 2: 245-9x
Target 3: 242-6x
3-T Agg.: 731-22x

Rick Ingraham:
Target 1: 237-4x
Target 2: 240-4x
Target 3: 242-5x
3-T Agg.: 723-13X

The rest shot HV CLASS
Dan Brown:
Target #1: 242-7x
Target #2: 243-10x
Target #3: 240-7x
3-T Agg.: 725-24x

Mark Normandin:
Target #1: 239-5x
Target #2: 241-6x
Target #3: 245-7x
3-T Agg.: 725-18x

Daniel Finney:
Target #1: 243-8x
Target #2: 236-2x
Target #3: 244-6x
3-T Agg.: 723-16x

Dave Shattuck:
Target #1: 239-7x
Target #2: 235-3x
Target #3 239-7x
3-T Agg.: 713-17x

Paul Bendix:
Target #1: 235-4x
Target #2: 231-2x
Target #3: 226-3x
3-T Agg.: 692-9x

Even though he was shooting LV CLASS using an AA EV-2, Todd Banks was the overall winner posting a very impressive 731-22x 3-T Aggregate. Congratulations Todd.

I want to thank everyone for coming, especially Todd and Paul for all their help with the set-up, take-down and scoring. I couldn’t have done it without everyones help, that’s for sure.

Our next match is in one month on February 18th, so mark your calendars.

GO PATRIOTS!

Dave,

Looks like your calculator froze up on the first few x counts but did ok after the first 3 guys mentioned.

I still consider Pinnacle a fictional place like Walton mountain or Never never land and was not about to try and get there during a snowstorm! The delay in posting results had me worried that you were all trapped up there and likely playing whoever shoots low score gets eaten.

Paul brought the snow shoes and forgot the skates.

See you guys in a few weeks at Holbrook weather permitting.

Couple of pictures of Sat, shoot.
I think I took first place in spectacular falls on the snow covered ice. Didn't know you could bruise ankle, knee, hip, back, shoulder and arm all at the same time? Daniel Finney took a close second.

Frank, Your old AA EV-2 shot as well as it looks.

Dave and Paul Thanks for having the shoot . It was good seeing all the boys . It was a lot of fun shooting over the snow with the snow coming down . A nice place to shoot , looking forward to see it in the summer . Hope to see you all in 2 weeks . Rick

Norm,

Sorry for the confusion with the x-counts. The sad thing is, it wasn't the calculator that froze up, but my mind instead, and it wasn't at the range on match day, but rather while conveying the totals onto this posting. Sad but true, things don't work as efficiently as they use to 25 years ago.

Dave,
Thanks for putting on a great match! It was well worth the 3.5hr drive over the mountain and through the woods. If only you had electricity in the range shack so we could have a forced hot air ducted directly to the benches!!! Do you mind if I bring along a generator and propane salamander next time??
Looking forward to the next match.
Todd

Dave,
Now I remember why I like Pinnacle Mountain in the Winter. No Black Flies and Mosquitos!!!

Thanks for running the shoot and providing all the goodies to eat. See you in 2 weeks.

Paul

Todd,

That's a great idea, but I really don't think there's enough room inside the shack for adding much of anything else between the number of shooters, wood stove, gun cases, air tanks and other related paraphernalia to do it safely, especially if more shooters show up, which could very well happen if it's not snowing.

Hope to see you either at Holbrook or Pinnacle.

Dave
