The match turned out to be everything I had hoped for, and more. The forecast had been for us to receive 2 to 3” of snow at the range throughout course of the day with most of the heavy snow staying to our south, which was right on-the-money. Even with such as light amount being predicted I had wondered if anyone would want to chance the trip up the hill as the local roads are usually never cleared until near the end of any storm, and Saturday was exception. And with Paul Bendix expecting a healthy 5 to 7” at his home, which it did, I really didn’t expect to see him.
But, Paul had arrived shortly before I did, so that was good. Of course, the first thing he proceeded to do was fall flat on his Ass slipping on the snow-covered ice as soon as his feet hit the ground while getting out of his truck. He seemed okay at the time, but I haven’t talked to him since so don’t know what the repercussions of that fall were.
With that type of forecast I never thought the fearless duo from New York, Todd Banks and Rick Ingraham, would chance the trip over Hogback Mountain. But I was wrong! They pulled in shortly after Paul had gotten the wood stove up and running. If you knew the terrain between here and there, you’d have been shocked too.
Mark Normandin was the next to arrive, but that was no big surprise as his trip wasn’t much different than mine as we both live about 15 miles to the south (as the crow flies). Plus, with Mark sporting his brandy new RAW TM1000 in .177 and wanting to see how it matched up against the rest, I don’t think much short of Hell or High Water was going to stop him from coming.
Then Dan Brown and Daniel Finney came rolling in, and the match was set at 7 shooters. Now, that may not sound like a whole lot of shooters to most of you, but it made this the biggest Air Gun event to date at Pinnacle Mountain.
At the beginning of the day the temp was well embedded into the single digits and only warmed to the mid-teens at best by matches end. The Shoot’n Shack warmed to either side of 40°, depending on whether the portholes were opened or closed, so that seemed nice and toasty whenever we came back in after hanging and retrieving targets. As for the matches title, the Frozen Fingers Follies, that proved to be a bulls-eye as everyone’s fingers, bar none, froze to the bone whenever at the bench and the breeze came blowing straight down the range. Thank God for that big old wood stove!

I want to thank everyone for coming, especially Todd and Paul for all their help with the set-up, take-down and scoring. I couldn’t have done it without everyones help, that’s for sure.
Our next match is in one month on February 18th, so mark your calendars.
