Front rest

Hello all... I am beating myself up trying to decide what type of front rest to purchase. I have done my research and I am aware of what is out there.I don't want to skimp but I also do not want junk.I have been trying to work up loads for 2 22-250 rifles and I have probably eliminated up to 90% of the most important variables except for my rest. I have been using sandbags and it is just not cutting it. I am leaning towards a Hart pedestal and the Hoen top. Anyone with the Hoen top please chime in.. I hunt with my rifles and occasionally like to shoot paper accurately so I know I do not need an $800 rest. Thanks!

Sinclair has several inexpensive front rests that are quality items. You might find more feedback on the factory/hybrid forum.

I bought a 1000 yd Caldwell Rock then put Butch Lambert's joystick rest on it. It was a tad too tall, so had a machinest make a new bushing. Works great now. However, you mentioned a 22-250 that you hunt with. What kind of groups are you expecting? Lots of good rests out there, have fun with your choices.

The best deal is the Cowan rest but your gonna have to wait a good while before you can get one. The are a few rests that come up for sale in the classifieds and they are what I would look for. Bald Eagle, Whichta, Hart, Sinclair would be a good buy with the right top. I wouldn't worry about a windage top or anything, keep it simple. For your purpose (if you don't plan on formal competition) would be the Sinclair ( item# 04-3110) at 159.95 It's not the best but will get the job your wanting to do done. If you think you might get more serious...then I would look at something else. What's your price range and give us more info.

I used a Caldwell 1000 yard rest for quite some time. It worked best for me since I have back problems and I have to sit pretty tall behind the gun, if I am going to shoot for very long. Caldwell also offers a VERY tall rear bag; the combination worked well for me. Also , the Caldwell 1000 yard rest was convertible from right to left handed windage adjustment. It's been some time since I bought mine, but I'd imagine they have not changed much, if at all. I'm not thrilled about their bags for the front rest, but they're very inexpensive.

After buying 4 different rests and 3 additional tops over the years, I still like the Sinclair offerings as the best quality for the money.

Thanks guys. I ended purchasing a used Hart Competitive 1 from the classifieds. Any recommended mods for it? Now for the rear rest. Protektor? Or....? I have a Winchester Mod 70 Coyote Lite 22-250, Shilen Match grade med barrel, blue printed action, bedded, timney trigger. I expect at least .5" groups out of it. Off of bags I have achieved better, but it never seems consistant the next time around. I dont have the rest in hand yet but I already feel better about it.
