Front Post on a Rest

Many rests used in RFBR, one of two piece, come with a single adjustable aluminum "front post" for return to battery/stop. I've noticed some have Delrin sleeves or other materials (O-rings, rubber, etc.) added by the competitor. Some have two posts that rest against the stock on either side of the barrel, referred to as goal posts.

What works best for you as a competitor? John

A lot depends on the stock and how deep the barrel is settled in it as well as how much bag is underneath the stock in the cradle, you do not want the barrel contacting the post. some rests have a post that is adjustable height wise for this. Then there is a school of thought that a single post could impart a bit of angular force if not perfectly centered every time. Don't know about that ain't good enough. I do know that bumping that post a bit too hard when returning to battery can mess up your bag set. single or double. A double post with one rest and a couple different gun stock combinations saves fiddling with the height of a single post- no worry about barrel contact.

Don't worry about it. People put a "o Ring" on so it wont scratch the stock and to cushion the bump. As blades said... Make sure the stop does not touch the barrel and do not slam it back into position. Just try to be repeatable and gentle every time. Besides recoil pushes the gun backwards if your post is is centered you will be fine.
