Front "bag"

As most everyone is aware, today's "sandbags" as utilized with most front tripods is a sandbag in name only. Now, I have not shot much BR in the last 25 years or so and still have an old "sausage" style bag on my Wichita rest (also old) but am thinking of moving into the 21st century with a new platform. My question is this; Would it be legal to use, in lieu of a sandfilled bag, a piece of high density foam encased in leather or cloth? This providing it could be deflected 1/4" etc. Regards, Bill.

Bill - try the search function for bags, sand, fillers, and similar words. There's been a steady stream of illegal ideas proposed over the years. Birdshot, ball bearings, styrofoam beads, packing peanuts, you name it --

Oh Oh, here we go he is going to get some of that Swedish mattress foam and put his rifle to sleep.

Sorry could not resist.

As long as his bag is filled with sand and at least 1/2" thick, everywhere, and makes continuous contact across the bottom of the forend, he can put anything under or around the bag that he wants.....I think:D

I'm not trying to make an improved rest or anything; I'm just trying to not mess with that damn sand. In "F" class, I can use whatever I want. I was just wondering, after looking at some of the front rests in use today, if the BR rules had changed in any way. I'll likely just keep right on using my 1978 bag. It's kind of scruffy and old but so am I! Regards, Bill.
