Freebore length and diameter

I've heard for a long time that the large Weatherby rounds had relatively long freebores to allow higher velocities at lower pressures.

I also understand how freebore length can be specified for allowing bullets to be seated into the lands with enough bullet seating depth.

I looked at three Pacific reamer prints and all had freebore diameter of .2245" for three different .224 rounds.

The question I have is whether or not freebore----at about .0005" over bullet diameter----is also a factor in bullet alignment with the throat ?

In other words, is ZERO freebore a detriment to accuracy ?

Thanks for any insight.

Many point-blank Benchrest shooters have chambers with zero freebore and they seem to kick butt with regularity.

Thanks Ray

I have a couple of varmint round reamers with zero freebore and they do OK for their intended purpose with the short .224 40 gr bullets.

I didn't realize that chambers with no freebore were in use for serious BR competition.
