I'm designing a .30-caliber case to shoot long-range benchrest. I know it is a slightly different proposition than F-class. Most 1K benchresters don't use the 185 Berger. I'm not sure I'll wind up using it, but I don't want to rule it out. Jim Hardy has called it "the most accurate .30 bullet I've used." (Of course, he's said that about some other .30s . . . No offense Jim).
The other bullets I'm considering all have a longer shank, so the 185 will be my "shortie." I'd like at least .100 of the shank in the neck.
Well, freebore length doesn't depend on anything but the bullet & leade angle, and I figure one of you highpower guys may have set a rifle up for the 185s. I see Berger offers both a BT and a VLD version. Probably the VLD has the shortest shank, so that'd be the one. If not a 1.5-degree leade angel, lemme know.
Thanks in advance,
Charles
