Quick one, I'm sure someone out there knows the ogive on the Fowler bullets, would be grateful if you could pass that info on.

Jef made several points. He once told me that most all of his early winnings was with a 6 ogive point. Easier to get to shoot. I still have some 68g's made in 2001. They look to be about 7.5-7.75.

Jef told me once that....

he made 7 ogives and didn't see any reason for any other shape. I believe that the last few years, he made nothing but 7s. Jerry, can you REALLY look at a bullet and know it's measurements ?

Jef indeed called his bullets 7's. However, I had Bill Niemi make me a "duplicate" of Jef's die, and Bill called it a 7 3/4. When compared side by side, you couldn't discern a difference between the bullets I made off the Niemi dia and Jef's, so . . ..

Yes, Snuffy, can't you?? A trained eye like mine can detect ogive errors and deviations down to about 0.000031876 ogives!!

Actually I have an ogive template that I use. The 2001 Fowlers I have are exactly 7.75. Somewhere here I have some 6mm 6.5's Jef made for me a few years ago.

I got a few years to go to catch up to your eye. My eye can only get down to 0.000041876 ogive!!!!

7 Ogive

Jef told me that he was told by Mr. Rorschach that his dies produced a 7 ogive bullet and he had no reason to doubt it. Good shooting...James

Just what does a ogive checker.....

look like and why doesn't everybody have one ? You told me that you had bad eyesight and I thought that was just an excuse.

Donovan, in the wide open spaces of North Dakota small ogives are hard to see in an open sky

Snuffums, you don't have an ogive checker because you didn't join the UOCA (United Ogive Checkers Association). As to eyesight, like I told the lady at the Duke University Eye Center, I can see big things like cars and trucks, I just can't see little things like people. Ogives are BIG, with dic** a mile long.

Look, guys, I don't care what someone says Jef said, it is easy to make an ogive checker and find out for yourself. For a 7 ogive, cut a template out of a thin opaque plastic sheet or heavy white paper, the radius for a #7 will be 1.701". For a 7 3/4 the radius will be 1.883".
