An additional feature was added at this years Super Shoot. The Kelblys have installed an FM radio transmitter. For a shooter base as spread out as the Kelbly range is, being able to tune a portable radio to 99.1, the shooter can hear all the PA commands.

Many Super Shooters load in their campers, a loading trailer, or in an EZ-up that is well away from the firing line by a good amount due to the huge amount of shooters present. With a simple $10 FM radio the shooter has constant access to what is coming over the PA.

Many thanks to the Kelblys for this addition and many thanks to the, as usual, very well run event.

This got me to wondering also, what if each region had a portable FM system to pass around at shoots like the Shamrock, Cactus, etc, where shooters and their reloading areas are spread out? Anyone have any idea what a system of a portable variety like this would cost.

FM at the range

There are cheap FM transmitter kits available from Radio Shack, Anyone that can solder and likes to fool with electronics can build one. I built one after the KC nationals and then began to have health problems and never used it.

I asked Jim Kelbly about that transmitter, and he told me the whole set-up cost about $300. He said the antenna was mounted above the loading barn in PVC pipe, to protect it from the elements.

For a portable system, it seems the antenna would be the problem.

I agree. The FM broadcast was a neat touch and much appreciated.

For those who have shot at the Super Shoot for many years you've noticed that George and Jim and all the rest have constantly worked to make things better with each passing year. I remember when the loading barn had crushed limestone for a floor and the roof over the firing line was not nearly so large as it is now.

I must admit, however, that I find the bench tops leave a lot to be desired but we have always managed with them even if my right side gets a little tender from leaning over the bench. Oh, one other thing. Yankee sausage sucks. ;) Can't wait for Jim to come back to Rachel's Glen so I can feed him some real sausage.

Yankee sausage is about as bad as Yankee BBQ sauce, or Yankee green beans. Nothing personal guys and gals. You can't help it if your forefathers settled there.

And, they still....

don't have "Sweetea". You have to cross the WVA border to get it. Although a close second is Raspberry tea at the Mex restaurant in Wadsworth. Alie and Lee turned this sweetea addict on to that "sub" AND...ALAS, ALAS the "fish place" in N. Lawrence has closed/moved. They must have condemned that old building.....AAH, atmosphere lost forever.:(:(

"Snuffy"

Snuffy, the Fish Place has moved into Massillon... A little bit further drive, but infinitely nicer.

Mickey and Jerry, please don't confuse the "synthetic sausage substitute" served at Kelblys as yankee sausage. We have some pretty good pork "up north here".I just sorta politely choked mine down and kept my mouth shut."beggars can't be choosers", you know.
Next year I'm gonna show up at Jeremiahs' trailer each morning about 6 am and just hang around until he feeds me!
