okay im ready to buy 8 or 10 flags but i need some expert advise about whether to get single or double vaners. as i told googrouper iheard that the double vanes overrotate and if a switch comes back, your toast if you pulled the trigger. are single vanes the ticket for this i hear they are more responsive and other than looking up and down the feild they work better in your scope? please help me make up my mind. ps-please forgive my writing here as i just dont work a keybord well. you could almost compare me to that bill collffee guy, but he has better spelling skills than me.

Flags

This is just my opinion, and it includes a "Qualifier".
I have a flag in the lawn at my business that I can see all day long. It is a single vane with a ball. Granted, I take some meds that alter my vision big time, but believe me, there are times I cannot tell a 10 o:clock from a 7 o:clock wind.
The exact same flag with the addition of a prop is a big help in determining the actual direction of the wind.
I also have some double vane flags that Dave Halblom built (Flying Fish Fundimantals) and there is no doubt if the wind is from 8 o:clock or 10 o:clock

ba, are they they the stripe dual vnes? i can understand that but does the ball in your front yard have colors to show direction? i have seen propellers and wonder if they affect the flag body touchung the bearing pivot meaning they might not be as sensitive? by affecting the pivot i mean vibration and the collar rubbuing on the side of the pivot. does that make any sence to you? Rick Graham's single van flags ...

with sail tails are all you need. They are very responsive and highly visible. I have five and use two of his larger flags for the back end of 200 yards. Rick will give you almost any color you want. I went with bright red and green. Here's his site: http://www.brflags.com/ Art

having tested many designs, thrown a lot of them away, and tweeked on the rest of them, I can catagorically state that daisies do not affect the rotation of a properly designed flag. And there are an awful lot of HOF members who swear by them. Dasiy flag and Ball flags and dual vane flags all have to be properly designed and balanced. Then they need to be of a color /stripe combination that is readily apparent to YOUR eyes. From there, practice will make perfect.

I guess there are people that use double vane flags but I don't know many if any.

Setting flags at 2007 IBS Score Nationals Canastota New York I may be wrong but I don't think I see any double vane flags.

single vane

centerfire I use 5 flags to 100

graham flags

order the large vane or 2 small for first 2 flags and 3 lage so they all look alike

then only read the 2 or 3 that are telling you what is happening to the dominant condition

dual flags are Ok if you just read one or 2 not 5

when having 5 out you look for patterns with dual flags too much info

people tell me 5 single flags are too much info but just pick 2 or 3 to read

example flage 2 tail touches or crosses over flag 3 tail on a 2 oclock condition easy to read once you know how

Jefferson Canadian rep on the world BR federation and finished 4th at worlds in vienna as team canada 2 (not bragging just showing I actually compete and not keyboard compete)

Not to toot my own horn

too much, but in Dick's photo there are at least 3 lines of my flags (manufacture). Don't know how many were actually there, but that is not "chump change".

FWIW, not very many score shooters shoot double vanes. But that does not make them either inferior or superior, just DIFFERENT PERSONAL preference.

There is NO perfect flag

I'm not sure there is a perfect windflag either. I have noticed that windflags, bullets, rests, and other things seem to somewhat regional. In one area of the country, z bullets with x rests and y windflags seem to be in popular and then in another part of the country, a bullets with b rests and c windflags are in vogue.

Bottom line is that windflags must be what you want. If your brain works with single then buy single. If you like double, then buy double. There are a fair amount of shooters out west here that use double vanes and the Hood style is what I use. The black and white stripes on the insides make a lot of sense to me and my eyes pick up on those stripes very easily.

Because the sheer number of single vane manufacturers outnumber double vane manufacturers, the probability of single vane majorities in matches would make it appear that they are more popular obviously.
