flag stand question

Okay guys/gals I need a bit of help please. Just received some new flags but the pivot pin that fits into my existing flag stands is too big. My existing flags have a pin size of .0945 and the new ones have a much larger pin that measures .237 inch.

Question is how to adapt the .237 pin to a light stand or pole. I don't mind getting new stands or making some poles but would very much like to be able to get an adapter or some such so that I can use both types of flags on the same pole(s).

Home-made delrin adapters seems to maybe be a good bet assuming I can drill a straight hole into the ends

How do you do it????? Thanks. bob finger

Bob,
I think your idea is good. Aluminum or Delrin work great. Drill your small hole all the way first and then drill the 6mm hole enough to hold the pivot pin.

Bob,

Here is a simple way to drill a straight hole into the center of a rod. you will need a drill press on this or a friend who has a drill press.

1. Take a 2 X 4 block of wood and drill a hole 1/2 way through that is the outside diameter of the rod that you want to use.

2. Now drill the rest of the way through the 2 X 4 with the drill bit that you intent to use to drill the hole in the rod.

3. Slip the rod into the first hole and by using a hand drill with the second bit in it drill the hole in the center of the rod by using the guide that you have made with the 2 X 4 block.

This is not the only way that this can be done and there are better ways if you have the tools, but this way works with simple tools.

problem solved

Thanks for all the data and pm's received. To close the loop:

I made "adapters" out of 3 inch long pieces of 3/4 wood dowel. 6mm hole on one end (for the flag pivot pin) and a 1/2 inch hole 1.5 inches deep on the other that fits over the top sleeve on my flag stands. They work well enough. The final adapters will be a bit more elegant and drilled straight (I hope).

I've been watching the "new" flags off and on this morning. I'm impressed with them fer sure. They are the BRT flags from Butch at Shadetree Engineering.

Thanks again for the help. bob finger
