FL die - FL bushing die...

Can someone explain the FL bushing die concept and what it does that the regular FL die does not do? Obviously, the difference lies in the "bushing" mechanism, but, having never used one of these, I'm looking to learn.

For reloading for the .257WBY, what will I gain in going from the Forster FL sizer, to the Redding FL bushing sizer?

:)

Your gain will be minimal but the bushing die will allow you to play with neck tension if you think that's important. It may also allow you to get another couple reloads before the cases go south.

This picture should visually illustrate the thing.....

The bushing is the golden colored part.

The bushing, often called a 'button,' it the adjustable (actually replaceable) part. You buy a series of bushings in different diameters and trade them out for effect. The bushing sizes only the neck.

IMO the biggest favor you could do yourself (other than trading for another chambering ;)) would be to get'cherself one of "innovative's" belted magnum dies. >> http://www.larrywillis.com << Larry Willis is the inventer/supplier of this gadget which allows belted magnums to be resized properly.

Thanks Al!

I hear you about choosing another chambering, but, at this point, I've got too much $$$ invested into this project to make a switch.

I did recently acquire a Larry Willis collet die - what a beautiful tool! It has been recommended however that the die works best with a FL bushing die - hence the reason for my question.

Thanks again!

Fl bushing die

I switched to a bushing die for my .243 and I can tell you this: Bullet run out is much less .001"-.002" before .005" - .007 if that helps you any. You can choose not to size the neck at all and size in a collet die such as Lee makes. You can also choose wheather or not to run the round over the expander ball.
But still have the die kick out the spent primer.
