First test of new Carbon Fiber wrapped CZ .177 on the Dawson

I tested the first of three .177 barrels that I've purchased for my HV Dawson today and it seems to show some promise:
CZ-Dawson 5 shot group.jpg That's a 5 shot group shot indoors at 25 yrds with a pellet sitting next to it.
The barrel is a CZ 200S barrel that was sleeved in carbon fiber with an integral air stripper by Rick Ingraham-

After mounting the barrel, the first two JSB Heavies went through the same hole, 3rd was slightly high and right but still touching and the next two went through the first hole. I shot a target after a little more sighting in and scored a 247 with a decent X count, with one hard nine and a flyer for an eight on number 23. I had forgotten to fill with air in the excitement and was well off the regulator by that point. We'll test this barrel more on Wed. evening and after next weekend we'll start testing a couple of Dan Brown thimble mounted LW barrels, one standard and one polygon.
Sure is nice to have guys like Rick and Dan coming up with new ideas for us to try!

Hi Todd

Always nice when one assemble and the pellets fly straight from the get go ! Some nice shooting.

What would be interesting are the numbers. Port size, reg pressure, speed, barrel length ?

Albert, I don't know the port size (I leave that kind of stuff to Rick and Dan), but the barrel is only 18 inches long and the reg is set at 1400psi. Until I disassemble the reg. to turn it up I'm only getting about 890fps out of the 10.3gr pellets, about 18.5fpe. I'll be spending the winter trying different combinations of my two Dawson actions with slightly different hammer set-ups, the Dan Brown regulator that's on this one now, the new twin tank externally adjustable regulator Dan is building for me, three .177 barrels, two .22 barrels and two or three stocks. I'm fortunate to have a 25meter heated indoor range just 3 miles from my house and I'll be spending ALOT of time there!

Thanks for the reply Tod. Yes, you are lucky with the heated indoor range, but we are even luckier being in Africa, we do not need a heater :D.

I'm looking forward about reading all about those rifles you have coming. Benchrest is taking "pellet guns" to a whole new level from the ones we grew up with on the farm. One see this everywhere. We started shooting 100m indoors and the race started (and most of the fun). Who knows where it will end .....
