This is my first project I have built with my lathe. Nothing fancy, but I needed it. Next might be the cone gauge. Gotta get some stock to build it first.

Why the double sets of screws? Never seen that before............Don

me thinks the inboard screws are to fasten to the lathe...but he should repace them with set screws....but maybe his lathe has room for the longer screws. when he uses it, he will see the benefits of not having the attaching screws sticking up in the air.

Hi Mike,

If those are for attaching to spindle exterior, then spindle i.d. will be too small to ever fit a barrel thru, it looks like to me.....................Don

I think.......

.........if I remember correctly, he bought a Grizzly G4003g,the smaller of the two gunsmith lathes and they have a outboard spyder already built in.

Maybe it is for a steadyrest spider, if so, I would have made it longer and spaced the adjuster screws further apart for better axial stability and adjustment...................Don

It looks like it should be held in a 4 jaw chuck and in turn holding a 700 action for truing ?

It is a spider for the outboard side of my lathe. I bought a Jet 1340 a few weeks ago. The pics are kind of deceiving. The I.D. of this is about 1.8", and the O.D. is around 2.7" I do think I will have to use standard set screws to fasten it to the spindle. There is not much room between it and the change gears. Thanks for the compliments guys. There is always room for improvement though.
