Fireformng Brass

I just did the wax plug Bullseye method of firefroming. A good friend told me to start with 10 to 12 g of Bullseye and work my way up until I achieved a good shoulder. 12 to 14gs produced a very round shoulder. I kept adding powder and firing. Big mussel blast, no recoil. I stopped adding powder at 17g. I got a very uniform cases with slight bolt resistance upon ejection.

How much BUllseye do you guys use to blow out cases and do you get more than 1.496 length after the first firing?

Thanks in advance,

I'd like an answer on this as well...

I have 80 Norma 243 cases on the way, to be formed to 243 AI.

I have Hogdon's Universal Clays, which is my pistol and shotgun powder. Not as fast a burn as Bullseye, but close enough.

I'm considering a modeling clay plug, rather than wax, but will go with the group consensus.

I was gonna start with 10 grains (almost twice my 45 acp load), but sounds like that might not be enough?

TIA for some group wisdom :)

Nothing in search

Mike, I used search tool prior to fire forming and even printed the thread you pointed out to use as a rerference. I found numerous references to Bullsyeye and fire forming but no specific postings on grains normally used. That is why I posted the thread after my findings and was looking for comparisons. I think that Butch must be correct. Just use what ever it takes.

My wife thinks that it is a secret because nobody has come forward with a volume.

I told her she was wright! We have a great marriage, she lets me buy guns I tell her how smart she is.

Kim,
Bullseye doesn't meter well for me. I use a little dipper and put in enough to get to the bottom of the shoulder and use a parrafin plug. Works for me and has for years.

Powder

The powder did act "Very strange" in my Harrell's but I was looking for a benchmark. With time I will learn what is relevant and was is not.
