Can someone please tell me how to duplicate the finish on a std Rem. 700 BDL stainless steel barrel action. I would like to get my custom barrrel to match the receiver. Thank you in advance.

I haven't been able to match the Remington finish, it's easier to do the barrel and action together..

Hi Dennis,

Thank you for the quick reply. I hope someone else has had better success then you. What technique do you use to try to duplicate the factory finish?

It depends on which finsh your reciever has. Some of the late ones have a coating that has more of a bluish tint to the ss. For that one try brand new very coarse glass bead. If it's the standard stainless try a fine sand blast to copy the texture followed by fairly fine glass bead to give it some sheen. The coarse CM barrel finish can be duplicated with a very coarse sand blast followed by glass bead and then blued.

I sand blast and then brush it with a soft stainless wire wheel at 600 rpm, clean it then spray G96 on it and wipe it off. It looks good but duller than the factory finish but considerably nicer than a coarse sand blast.

I have had reasonable results with grit blast followed by a glass bead blast. Not perfect but duplicating or matching finishes can be a bit frustrating.
